Lake Allatoona Fishing Report Oct Week 2

Water Temp 72-73

Water Level 6.34ft low

I've been fishing the last few days and the fishing is anywhere from Good to outstanding on numbers and it's definitely a power fishermans lake right now. My boat was the only one on the lake yesterday that was dumb/(Smart) enough to fish in the driving rain. We got wetter in our rain suits than we do in our own showers. But the funny thing is the harder it rained the better the fish bit. I have never ever seen the spinnerbait bite this darn good and I am glad it is back. On the rainy day my client cut his trip short due to the rain. We had 15 in the boat by 11am. I went back out in the downpour and I had to use my GPS to navigate the lake because I couldn't see the front of the boat and I put another 25 fish during the extreme downpours and got off the lake around 4pm. I was asked to test a new spinnerbait by a new company called Tackle Doctors in what they call the Dr. Spot spinnerbait which is catered specifically towards Spotted Bass and they were just hammering that bait. Every fish we caught was caught on that blade with the exception of a few senko fish. We didn't catch any big fish but alot of solid chunks in the mix. Here is a quick pic of the last 2 fish I caught as I was leaving the lake. Rumor has it Natures Tackle Box will be the exclusive Georgia dealer of the Dr. Spot.

This morning I got out with Sean Odell and we had a great time. The bite wasn't quite as strong but we got a good 15+ fish in the boat and had quite a few missed opportunities on some VERY nice fish. Sean is a die hard finesse (Dropshot) guy and he wanted a change of pace. He wanted to learn how to do the run and shoot offense and see how it works so we put his seat belt on and put the trolling motor on high and covered water with the blade. He's never caught a fish on a spinnerbait, buzzbait, Senko OR a Fat Ika and this morning he got a few fish on all 4 baits and his first Allatoona Largemouth. He commented that we covered more water today than he normally does in 5 trips to the lake. LOL We spent most of the day with the blade anywhere from 1ft to 35ft of water and the best pattern for us was points both mainlake and some secondary points. Just burn it and hold on. The swimbait bite is kinda off right now but it will pick up SOON. We did try throwing it some but didn't get the attention that we were looking for so we went back to the active blade bite. Here is a pic of Sean and myself.

If anyone is interested in a trip I have a few days left open in October and I'm starting to get interest in November. Anytime in October is good for numbers and a good opportunity to work on almost any kind of bait you want to work on. Late Oct and Early November is BIG TIME SWIMBAIT WEEK and if you want to catch a Allatoona Toad those are historically your best times in the fall to schedule a trip to make it happen. I have had MANY 6lb plus fish caught in my boat during those time frames. It just sticks out like a sore thumb in my notes.

Don't forget about the swimbait seminar by Randall and myself at Natures Tackle Box on Oct 20th. Mike

Lake Allatoona Fishing Report SEPT WEEK 3

Water Temp: 77-78
Water Level: 3.76 ft low

Water is still barely falling as it has only fallen .50 of a foot in a weeks time. The good news is the water temps have dropped roughly 3 degrees. Water is clear in some areas and slighly stained in others and stained in the very backs of the major creeks. Most of this stain is due to the high winds we have been having.

Fall is here and the fishing is pretty good right now. Earlier in the week I had two guys playing hookie from work :) and we stopped couting at 40+ spots mostly 2lbs or smaller. The prefrontal bite of this cold snap we have now really fired up the fish. We caught alot of fish on alot of different baits. buzzbaits, Sammies, wakebaits, swimbaits, spoons, jerkbaits and dropshot. We concentrated mostly about halfway back in the creek arms. I'm not sure it mattered what kind of structure you fished as they were coming off almost every type of structure known and the pattern was extremely easy to follow. My trips later in the week have been a little bit slower mostly due to spending time hunting for bigger fish. The swimbait bite is developing nicely. Not strong yet but it is getting there. We have had several GOOD followers and I actually lost a very nice fish on the big baits that would have made a very nice photo opportunity..

I don't have any openings for the rest of September and I am starting to book for October. October is by far the best month in the fall time of the year. LOTS of different tactics will work including Swimbaits. If your interested in a trip email me and lets get you on the calender early before the dates are gone. .

Randall Kirkpartick of FishAtlanta and myself will be conducting a swimbait seminar at Natures Tackle Box in Hiram, GA. It will be a great opportunity to see two totally different fishing styles and how we approach swimbait fishing. For more information the flyer is listed below.

Lake Allatoona Fishing Report SEPT WEEK 2

Water Temp: 80-81
Water Level: 3.26 ft low

Water is currently barely falling as it has only fallen .37 of a foot in a weeks time. We are crystal clear throughout most of the lake with a little stain in the backs of the creeks. Water temps are still steady at 80 and 81.

The fishing is pretty good right now. Earlier this week we ran into a MASSIVE School of Hybrids/Stripes and Spots. It was about 5 acres of fish boiling on top for about 45 minutes and it was a fish every cast. In early morning I am starting to fish midway into the creeks using topwater in the form of buzzbaits, sammies and wake baits and catching a decent limit fairly fast. It's working better on those overcast mornings. Once the topwater bite goes I would concentrate on the spoon bite. By far the spoonbite is the best thing going. Be looking for deep holes midway to the mouth of these creeks for these schools of spoon fish. Be sure to have a topwater handy as they do surface at times. If white bass is your thing you can find them by the truck loads about midway in the creeks schooling on top. There are some decent spots mixed in with them but for the most part I am finding my spoon fish seperate from the white bass. I would strongly suggest varying your spoon size this time of year due to the many different sizes of threadfin that are available. I'm working anywher from 1/4 oz spoon to 1 oz spoon. If you are seeing fish on your graph and not getting bit change your spoon size really quick and that should trigger the fish into biting.

Another good bite is the dropshot and dart head bite along the bluff walls. You can find fish on those bluff walls year around but you just have to finesse them into biting. The swimbait bite is working well on the schooling fish when they come up but it's still a fickle bite. I am thinking if we can get our water temps to start dropping into the mid to upper 70's we should start see some PIGS on the end of our lines.

I don't have any openings for the rest of September and I am starting to book for October. October is by far the best month in the fall time of the year. LOTS of different tactics will work including Swimbaits. If your interested in a trip email me and lets get you on the calender early before the dates are gone.

Here is a pic of my guys out this week and also a video of the 5 acres of schooling fish on top.

Lake Allatoona Fishing Report SEPT WEEK 1

Water Temp: 80-81
Water Level: 2.89 ft low

Our water temps have risen a few degrees and we are now starting lose water again that we got from Hurrican Faye and we are currently down .44ft from last week.

Right now the fishing is improving however the bite is hit and miss. Topwater bite is hit and miss. It's a hit when you find the schooling fish.. Senko bite is still there and it's improving. The swimbait bite is fickle. It's there one day and gone the next. Your basically looking for ONE big fish but that fish could easily go 5lbs + or you can totally bagel just as easily but your chances increase if you have some cloud cover. This is very typical of the transition from Summer to fall. Spoon/Sonar fishing is also another viable option. Basically it's a junk fish pattern right now and if you run into an active school you will have a good day. If you don't things will be on the tough side. I have alot of rods rigged up on the front deck with different baits to try to match the situation as it arises. If you need to grunt a limit finesse fishing is the way to go take your pick dropshot, jig worms, small spoons etc. If you want to try for more quality fish you really need to either throw the swimbait or hope you run into one of those active schools of fish that has some size to it.

The biggest key right now is to cover water and have alot of different baits ready. By doing so you will increase your chances of running into one of those schools that is just bursting at the seams. Most of the schooling I am seeing is main lake or just inside the creeks a bit. Most are off of long main lake points and over deep mainlake areas. Do keep in mind that that is a TON of small shad out there right now so if the schooling fish won't take your normal baits try downsizing a bit. Take your smallest bait and cut it in half TWICE and you should be close to matching the hatch.

Lake Allatoona Fishing Report AUG WEEK 4

Water Temp: 76-78

Water Level: 2.44 ft low

Fishing is Good: Water has risen 1.87 feet since last week due to Hurrican Faye. However, the cool weather continues to drop the water temps down to the 76-78 degree range which is roughly 2-4 degrees cooler. Water clarity is spotty all over. Most of the main lake is still fairly clear from Clarks Creek to Gaults. There are some semi stained areas but I think some of them were due to being windblown. Most of the feeder creeks are stained pretty good due to the rains.

Two of my trips this week got cancelled due to the rain forecasted. I tried to get out Tuesday but the rain had other plans. Wednesday I fished by myself from sunup to sundown in search of a big fish. Due to the overcast skies, cooler water temps and low pressure I started off with the swimbait and after seeing a few decent fish following I ended up with the swimbait other than a few brief spurts playing with the sonar fish when I saw them. Surprisingly the big fish we chasing pretty good but alot of them were just following. Some of the fish I saw would make you think that your on the wrong lake LOL. No lie I saw 1 fish follow me in that was in excess of 7lbs (Largemouth). I saw 2 fish that looked in the 6lb range, and a few in the 4-5lb range (spots and heads) and quite a few 2-3lb fish. It's one thing to see them but it's another to actually get them to bite. To be honest I wasn't prepared to fish the swimbait all day so had I known I would have done things a little different. Lets just say that I got my 50lb swimbait bag out of the garage and it's now in my boat LOL. Again there really is no pattern to follow other than just to arrive early/leave late and cast like heck in between. Some fish I saw came on points, some on red clay, some were on the flats and others were just where they were and for no rhyme and reason.

There are alot of crappie, Sandies and Spots schooling fairly deep. By fairly deep I mean 45-50ft range. The crappie and sandies like to hit the smaller 1/4 oz size spoons but they will hit the bigger 1oz occasionally. So if you see fish on the graph and they won't hit your spoon try downsizing a size or two and this will help you decipher what it is that is following your spoon nad not hitting it.

Here is the big fish of the day and a sonar shot of my spoon working a school of fish.

Lake Allatoona Fishing Report AUG WEEK 3

Water Temp: 79-82

Water Level: 4.31 ft low

Fishing is Fair: Water has dropped .91 feet since last week. This cool weather continues to drop the water temps down to the 79-82 degree range. Water at Red Top is hovering at around 78-79 at first light. I made it all the way up past Victoria and the water was consistantly 82-83 degrees. Things are still fairly inconsistant. It's basically a junk pattern and covering as much water as possible with finesse type baits.

II didn't mess with the crankbait bite any thus far but I am sure it is still there. Both of my groups of guys this week wanted to play with the spoons/sonar and dropshot so we stayed with those techniques for the most part. Schooling on top is barely there and the sonar bite is pretty much the same. If I had to pick the strongest pattern to grunt it out it would be the brush and dropshot bite ie finesse fishing (oh the pain and the agony LOL). However on the bright side the crappie bite is pretty good LOL. Just like last week you have to cover quite a bit of brush to scratch out an average limit. The dropshot is doing it's best damage on the bluffs and even those fish are on the small side. Just pick a good shoreline and grunt it out in the 15 to 20ft range and be thinking about this full moon getting out of the way and that fall bite right around the corner. I expect the awesome Senko Fishing to start pulling it's weight more within the next couple of weeks provided our cool temps continue. They are hitting it now but it's fairly sporadic. Lake Allatoona Fishing Report AUG WEEK 2

Water Temp: 82

Water Level: 3.41 ft low

Fishing is Fair: Water has dropped .79 feet since last week. This cool front really dropped the water temps down to the 81-82 degree range. I actually saw 79 in one of the creeks I fished. I saw alot more big fish chasing this week than in weeks past due to the recent cool temps we have been getting. I saw quite a few fish over 4lbs in the last 2 days following my bait into the boat and ended up only getting one of them in the picture below.... It does look like this "chill of an early fall" is going to stick with us for a few more days. I see a low of 60 degrees forecasted for parts of this week so man it would be awesome to have an early fall this year!

The little fish for the most part are biting. If little fish are your thing you can catch them on cranks by parralleling the bluff walls. The dropshot bite has gotten a little tougher because those deeper fish have moved up a little in the water column because of the cooler temps we have been getting. The brushpile bite is still there. You just have to rotate through enough of them to get what you want out of them. Believe it or not I am getting some fish on the senko and Fat Ika in blue pearl color. It's not strong but that is what I am seeing most of my big lookers on. The big fish are still suspending and the Senko and Fat Ika is doing a starting to call them up. Keep an eye on your graph for those big single arches as you are working an area and drop your spoon down on them. Thats how the picture fish below was caught. She was caught 35ft down over a 50ft bottom LOL.

There really is no pattern for the senko and Fat Ika bite other than to just make alot of casts. The best advice I can give you is to pay attention to what third of the creek you are in. If you are catching fish in the first third of a creek try the first third of another creek etc etc. That to me is the only patternable part and it's not 100% reliable. The big fish are still fairly tough to pattern but you can find an acorn here and there. I actually had another fish over 4lbs that I lost right at the boat so things are starting to look up and I think these cooler temps are the primary reason for these bigger fish to start chasing. I am seeing a HUGE migration of small shad in the creeks and the white bass are just going nuts with them. Yesterday I had one of those HRUS festivals and caught well over 100 white bass and these were nice size whites in the 1.5 to 2lb range. You could literally drop your spoon and see nothing on the sonar and as soon as you see your spoon going down on the sonar the dang thing would black out. It was pretty much on cue on every drop and it was so rediculous I did a short video with my digital camera. Had to have the camera and rod and reel in my hand to do it thats why the video looks like I am fumbling around because I was LOL. I am trying to figure out a way to rotate it and them post it. My boat looked like an excorcist was performed on it there was so much blood on the front deck. When the automatic bilge turned on due to the rain the water had a red tint to it LOL. The funny thing is today the white bass went poof.

Lake Allatoona Fishing Report AUG WEEK 1

Water Temp: 86

Water Level: 2.62ft low

Fishing is Fair: For the rest of the summer it will be all about the brush and shade bite. Any place you can find shade is the place to be. Docks, bluffs, brush, wave barriers and deep water are all places to try where fish are trying to cool off and get comfortable. On top of that the shad are VERY small right now so match the hatch is becoming crucial at times. The deep bite is by far the most consistant especially using the sonar and fishing around brush. For sonar it's mostly small spoons and dropshot for me. For brush I'm using spoons, jigs, BIG cranks or anything that you can get down to the brush and fish it effectively and I don't think color matters much as getting the lure in the fishes face and trying to get it to react. The key now is to fish as many productive areas as possible so the run and shoot offense is what has been working best for me. If you don't get a hit in 10 minutes or even less move to the next area. Numbers are not great but it seems to be making it up in quality.

I could be wrong but I am starting to see what I think looks to be a thermocline forming at around 28ft. I need to bring my portable temp gauge out next time to be sure. The thermocline will help concentrate those fish and help you eliminate alot of water based on the depth of the thermocline. The key will be fishing structre and cover within the thermocline column.

Lake Allatoona Fishing Report JULY WEEK 5

Water Temp: 85

Water Level: 2.39ft low

Fishing has been on the tough side this week. What a difference a week makes. It was so noticeably different this week that today I told myself that we had to be on the verge of a new or full moon and sure enough when I checked the online moon phases tommorrow is the full moon. That actually made me feel a little bit better but not by much. Typically the week of the full or new moon slows the fishing down. I know for a fact that the top water schooling slows down significantly on either side of the Full or NEW moon so it only makes sense that the schooling underwater does the same. It's funny I've never been a moon phase watcher until I have started fishing on Allatoona paying more attention to it, but there is definitely something to it. Give it a week and things will improve steadily back to normal after we hit the 100% full moon tommorrow. One other observation fishing behind or in front of a full or new moon in the summer seems to be worst than any other season???? I don't know why that is but it's just an observation that I have noticed..

The morning bite thus far has been horrible for me. I'm actually doing better in the heat of the day than at first light but you still have to get beyond technical to catch them. One thing I have noticed this week is that the fish tend to suspend off the points and humps and concentrate a little more when the sun is out which to me makes them a little easier to pattern in the offshore areas. You fish your areas at first light and nothing. Come back mid day and they are in there. I caught fish on fish head spin, spoons, jigs and spot tails in these types of areas just not in the numbers that have been in my boat in previous weeks. Yesterday I had 10 spots and a lost largemouth and today I had 12 spots and 1 hybrid. Typical Allatoona sized fish in the 1lb-2lb range. I did do some finesse fishing for just a little bit today just to gauge that bite and caught fish. So if you wanted to fish the shoreline ultra small/light line finesse tactics would be my choice and I mean smaller than a typical jigworm combo :)

Still no thermocline as of yet on the south end. If these hot air temps continue a thermocline could develop and squeeze our fish at a certain depth range and make them even easier to catch. Keep your sensitivity on high and be on the outlook for a developing thermocline. However, there is a significant plankton line in the 40ft range.

Lake Allatoona Fishing Report JULY WEEK 4

Water Temp: 85
Water Level: 1.8ft low

Fishing has been on the good side. If you are good at finding off shore structure and fishing deep you could be doing very well in numbers of both Hybrids and Spots. I'm doing alot of off shore sonar fishing and I haven't casted at the shoreline at all in July thus far. I have been fishing both the dropshot and the spoon almost exclusively except topwater during the early morning hours for schoolers. The schooling activity has been alot weaker this week than it was in June due to the higher water temps, but the schooling activity down deep has been great. Most of my fishing has been taking place moreso in the main lake than in the creeks. I am keeping a 3/4 oz and 1oz spoon rigged just in case their is a profile preference and I am using a regular treble hook and not a tough saltwater hook so that if I hang up I can pull my spoon free. I like 15lb Triple Fish Fluorocarbon to insure that I am constantly in contact with my spoon as some of my fish have come as deep as 50ft but most are in the 25 to 30ft range. My dropshot I am using 8lb Test fluorocarbon tipped with a Tiny Fluke or a Yamamoto Cuttail in Blue pearl color. Most of the offshore areas I am working are on the ends of points and over humps that have the channel nearby and even more brownie points if you can have some brush nearby as well. However the biggest key is being comfortable with your sonar equipment. If you have the Humminbird Side Imaging capability you are at a huge advantage on the fish due to it's ability to locate schools of fish. I will also say that the spot tail bite is off the charts as well and good numbers can be had with the Spot Tail bite worked in the same general areas that the spoon works well in.

Today I had about 40 fish with a good mixture of Spots and Hybrids. I probably had a tad more hybrids than Spots, but the spots I did catch were a good 2lb average. The highlight of the trip actually happened 3 times. I hooked 3 seperate fish and as I was reeling them in a giant 30lb whale of a striper was following my hooked fish. I actually had one of those big stripes ram into a hooked hybrid I had atleast 5 different times. I saw this clear as day and tried to take a picture but you can't see the big striper in the water very well.

Still no thermocline as of yet. If these hot air temps continue a thermocline could develop and squeeze our fish at a certain depth range and make them even easier to catch. Keep your sensitivity on high and be on the outlook for a developing thermocline.

By the way if your interested in learning how to fish spoons, off shore stuff and sonar interpretation now is as good a time as any to take a trip.

Here are a few sonar shots that I took to give you some eye candy on what is going on under the water.

JULY WEEK 2

Water temp 83

Water Level 2.1ft low

Bass Fishing has been hit or miss lately. Something about constantly changing weather makes my deep fish move around alot. In the summertime for me it's all about the offshore stuff. I don't think I have fished the shorelines for more than 10 minutes in about 3 weeks now. It would be quite a bit easier if I could work my offshore stuff mid day without being bounced around by the cruiser waves as it gets really bad out there after 12 noon. This am I took out the legendary Dannyp this morning and he managed this nice mini mag spot despite all of the cruiser waves on offshore stuff. Basically what we are doing is working alot of humps, ledges and long points in the 25ft range. If you have brush on them then that just makes it spot on spot. I'm working jigs, spoons and also spot tails in these types of areas and I am getting a mixed bag of all types of fish from Stripes to Spots to Hybrids and even crappie. I wish I brought home my Humminbird Chip as I had a hilarious picture of my spoon working a school of hybrids and you can see how bad my boat was bouncing up and down due to the pleasure boat traffic. No need to jig the spoon up and down I just let the waves do that for me LOL.

Now Hybrids is another story they are bunching up very nicely and will only get stronger as the summer progresses. If you don't have a Humminbird Side Imaging man your job just got tougher in trying to find these schools of hybrids. It's a constant drive around until you see them on the SI then hunt them down from the top deck with the sonar and spoon. They are anywhere from 20 to 40ft deep and are in fairly big schools. Mon I had an easy 2 dozen in my boat all on the spoon. Most of them are a solid 2 to 5 lbs and mean! LOL. This morning I was fighting a nice 3 or 4lb hybrid and a 20 to 30lb whale Striper was following it LOL.

Next week I will be on Vacation in Las Vegas, NV for ICAST so no report next week.

Here are some of the pics of Dannyp from this am.

This fish brought him to his knees LOL.

JULY WEEK 1

Fishing is not bad during my few outings. I will say that with gas at $4/gal you would think the pleasure boaters would not be out in full force during the week. My gawd it was insane out there thsi morning!! Muddy shorelines by noon but the fishing is still not bad!! Oh Well

Anyway, you really have to work hard for the fish you do catch. There is some topwater action depending on what side of the front you are on. If it's prior it can be a pretty good bite. If it's after the front it will be a little more difficult. As of this week I can't seem to get a fish much over 2lbs BUT!! I am catching alot of 2lbers. This morning I had 10lbs on a spoon and I had another 8-9lbs on spot tails. That has been pretty close to par for me the past few trips give or take some. I will say that it is taking everything I have to get that so it's not an easy bite at all. I also caught 3 stripers in the 5lb range. I got lucky and found a good sonar bite this morning and had that 10lbs (all spots) in 5 casts with the spoon. It's just one of those things that you luck out and find and with no rhyme and reason pattern wise (think blind squirriel here).

I am also hearing some guys talking about a cline setting up. As of right now there really is no thermocline. These recent cool fronts are keepinb it from setting up. Most of what you are seeing is a plankton line around 50ft not a thermocline. Once that cline sets up it will be alot easier to find fish as you take the depth factor out of the equation.

For more info and pics on brush and cline check out this this post below that I did earlier today on www.allatoonabass.com

http://allatoonabass.proboards76.com/index.cgi?board=sonar&action=display&thread=3210

As most of you might already know the best bite is by far the deep brush bite. Last week it moved up to 15ft now this week they are back out at 25ft. It's a one fish here and one fish there type deal. If you did your homework when the water was at record low earlier this year it's time to break out those old GPS coordinates and start working them. Spoons, Jigs, Jig worms, wormmmmmms, fish head and of course spot tails will all do very well on the brush. This bite will last till until fall gets here.

JUNE WEEK 4

Fishing is getting interesting. The topwater bite is starting to get furious at first light now that the full moon is past us. Best days are overcast and no wind if you can make a wish. I'm doing well on Sammy's for the most part and a cool little crankbait that I am playing with I figured what the heck nobody throws a crankbait like this and it's working very well given the conditions.. But once the sun gets up and hot it's funny that little cool front we had moved my fish shallower than the previous week. They just up and left me LOL. I figured they would move deeper but they moved out stacked up like cordwood at 25 feet to like 15 feet. Thats cool fronts for ya. To me they are harder to catch at 15ft than they are at 25ft. Might just be me tho. Brush, humps and long points are still the deal and will continue to be the deal for the mid day bite throughout the summer. I'm working spoons, dropshot, jigs and plastic wo wooorrrr woorrrrmmmmss in those areas.

JUNE WEEK 3

Fishing is pretty good. There is a halfway decent schooling bite bright and early. It wasn't as strong as it could be due to the wind, but If the wind dies down it should be pretty good with a mixed bag of Hybrids, whites and Spots. Sammy's and the bama Rig is the deal. This am I had almost 30 fish by myself on a mixture of Topwater, Spoons, Dropshot and Spot Tails. The main deal for me after the scooling bite is offshore stuff. Humps, long points, channel ledges, brush, rock piles etc etc. in the 25ft range. Just hit as many of those during the day and you will hook up. It's difficult to stay on those off shore areas in the wind but persistance and a good GPS/Sonar split screen is worth it's weight in gold right now. I had two 7lb stripers on 6lb Triple Fish Fluorocarbon using Spot tails this am (that was a hoot chasing them down with the trolling motor ! LOL). I had both of them on video but when I went to look at it the dang camera was zoomed in all the way. You can see the sky pretty good tho . I also had half a dozen whopper size crappie and the rest where spots ranging anywhere from dinkle to almost 3lbs. So far summer is turning out better than I thought it would..

JUNE WEEK 2

Water Temp: Mid to upper 80's

Water Level: a hair above full pool

I went out today just to try out the spot tail bite as I have some kids on a trip coming up. Spot tail bite is really doing well. I had a mixture of 21 fish in about 3 hrs all on Spot Tails and I never threw a artificial at all today. Seems like 20 to 25ft is the key holding depth. I caught 5 crappie that would prolly go 7 or 8lbs (nice crappie atleast for me LOL). Other than the fact that they feel like your reeling in a water logged sock they were fun to catch LOL. I had 8 crappie, 1 white bass, 2 stripers and 10 spots. Some of the spots were pretty decent size and a blast to catch on a spinning rod and 6lb line. I caught most of the fish in a variety of places like bluffs, long points and around brush. Fishing was great until I ran out of minners. d brush. Fishing was great until I ran out of minners.

June Week 1

I've been alternating back and forth between Carters and Allatoona. Carters is now a few feet low and the reregulation pool that was empty last week is almost full LOL. They have been yanking alot of water there and it kinda went from that clear look to fairly stained. I got to Carters and fished for about an hour and a half and knew it would be tough calling swimbait fish up out of 50ft of stained water so I headed back south to Toona and fished Toona yesterday afternoon and today.

Allatoona isn't doing bad. The topwater is pretty much dead. Lots of very small white bass busting shad on top but nothing spot wise atleast on the South end. I was lucky to have the lake pre frontal so the fish were more active than they were late last week with a 15 count yesterday starting at 11am and 23 count today starting at crack of dawn. I fished the swimbait the first few hours but got the majority of my 23 in about 3 hrs . I got a 2.5lber on the 8 inch Hampton Shad and 3 on the lil hampty. They are definitely keying in on smaller shad which is 3 inch tops now. The senko did most of the damage, but I got fish on a variety of baits wacky jig, dropshot, Flashminnow 95MR and 2 suicide spoon fish as I saw schools go under the boat. If I didn't have prefrontal conditions I would stick with fishing the dropshot for most of the fish which I tested today for just a short time and got 5 fish in 45 minutes. All of my areas are main lake related which is setting up for summer. Once the temps get 80 degrees that power bite will go POOF then we will be stuck with finesse for the most part till fall booooo boooooo . I would really like to see the lake get a good flush of water out the dam to liven thing up a bit. Lots of scum and debris in the lake now. The first 10ft of water is nothing but trash on my graph.

MAY WEEK 4

I decided to do a Carters Trip just for a change of scenery. Man I keep forgetting what a beautiful drive through the country it is on the way to Carters on Hwy 411.

But anyway the water temp was 70 degrees and look like the water was right around full pool but the water came down some by the end of the day I noticed by looking at the water level at the ramp.

Fishing was really good. Awesome swimbait bite going on right now. It's not easy fishing but it's a good fish or two an hour and the ones you do catch are very nice size. Water is fairly clear but still not super clear which is usually standard on Carters. I am guessing 5 ft clarity where you normally get 8-10ft clarity on Carters. For 8 hrs I got like 9 fish and thats not counting how many I saw LOL. Every darn one of them on the 8 inch Hampton Shad as I threw it all day long and it was nice to only have one rod on the front deck for a change LOL. I was mostly working the deep water in the main lake. I didn't get one fish shallower than 30ft. Most of my fish came in the 35 to 45ft range with the bigger spot in the pic came out of 80ft of water LOL. Think Deep, BIG and SUSPENDED when you fish Carters LOL. I had a few extremely nice followers yesterday. Well to put it another way I saw some spots that I personally don't think I have seen much bigger LOL. That 7lb 2oz Spot lake record won't be holding much longer on Carters. I saw Wayyy to many 5-6lb spots in that lake for it not get broken. Almost all of my fish were between 2 and 3lbs with the exception of the kicker in the photo. I had an easy 15lb best 5 all spots.. The highlight of the trip was the way that bigger spot hit my swimbait. I was reeling the bait along and I felt a bump (thats my sign for spots playing with my bait). I immediately starting reeling very fast to trigger the fish to bite again. That big spot shot out of that 80ft of water and T Boned my 8 inch Hampton Shad and went completely airborne about 3 ft in the air. I had to wait for her to land back in the water before I set the hook LOL. WHAT A RUSH that was. I wish I had that on video of that T Bone that was an awesome hit definitely the best of all time that I have seen on a swimbait fish. I think I'll go back there next week ;D:)
